Chrysler announced a consumer level safety recall of 288,000 older Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up trucks, nearly 257,000 of which are in the U.S., the Associates Press reported on December 19.
In an investigation conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the pinion nut in the rear axle may become loose, causing the rear axle to lock up suddenly or the drive shaft to fall off, potentially causing the vehicle to spin dangerously. The NHTSA discovered 15 complaints regarding the issue. Chrysler stated that there has been one injury and three crashes related to the problem.
The recall, which will start in February, aims to repair all the affected vehicles at no cost. Consumers were asked to get in touch with Chrysler for any query.
