The Claims Services Department (CSD) of the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission

The Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission Claims Services Department (CSD) is where many parts of a worker’s case are handled. The CSD answers questions from workers, reviews all the incoming mail and inquires, processes all the claims and hearing requests, handles claims by health care providers for payments and the requests for attorney fees from lawyers. The main tasks the CSD performs are:

  • Processing the original claims
  • Setting up the Judicial hearing dates
  • Entering the award agreements and termination forms
  • Administration of the Uninsured Employers’ Fund
  • Providing assistance with a wide variety of benefit calculations such as:
  • wage chart/average weekly wage
  • compensation rate
  • interest
  • lump sum
  • COLA
  • 500 weeks
  • third party credit
  • temporary partial
  • penalty
  • permanent partial disability

The Uninsured Employers’ Fund (UEF) is the way employees get paid where their employer does not have proper or full insurance.

The Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission cannot provide legal advice or advisory opinion. For legal advice, a worker should make an appointment with an experienced Virginia Workers’ Compensation lawyer.
