- Financial Services. This department handles all the money that comes in and goes out. It’s mainly for running the Commission and for collecting the workers’ compensation insurance premiums.
- Human Resources. This department is just for the people who work in the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission. It includes typical human resources tasks such as hiring, employee benefit programs, etc.
- Information Systems. This department handles the technology for the Commission including application development, database design and support, a helpdesk, network engineering, and software testing
- Insurance. This department makes sure employers have the necessary workers’ compensation insurance and that the insurance meets the requirements of the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act.
- Judicial. “The Judicial Division of the Commission is made up of the Commissioners, the Chief Deputy Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioners, the Clerk’s Office, all Regional Offices, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Department, and the Petition & Order (settlement) Department.” This department mediates and adjudicates disputed claims. It conducts hearings, writes legal opinions and adjudicates disputes and appeals. The main goal of this department is to make sure hearing are prompt, fair and impartial – and that all litigants have due process.
- Other key departments include Outreach Services and Project Management.
