Attending Physician’s Report: A form completed by the attending physician that describes the nature and extent of an injury. The use of this form is optional.
Average Weekly Wage (AWW): The earnings of the injured worker in the employment in
which he/she was working at the time of the injury. This is usually calculated by adding the
wages of the worker for the 52 weeks prior to the injury, and then dividing this figure by 52.
Award: The grant or denial of benefits or other relief under The Virginia Worker’s
Compensation Act.
Award Agreement: The Claims Administrators completes this form when a claim has been approved as compensable entitling the injured work to benefits. The “Award Agreement provides the basis for the Award of compensation.” That being said, never confuse an Award Agreement with an actual Award. The agreement is just one step. It must be signed by both sides, and sent into the Commission. Then the Commission must enter an Award based on the Agreement. Do not assume that because you have sent in your signed copy to the adjuster, that an Award has been entered.
